Byzantine and Glass Bead Earrings

Byzantine and Glass Bead Earrings

My journey into jewelry design began with stained glass. That might seem unrelated, but at one point I wanted to learn hot glass techniques, which began with making glass beads. My exploration in glass ended there, and my journey into metalworking began! These beads have black and blue glass swirled together.

These sterling silver earrings are woven with a pattern called Byzantine, a very traditional chainmaille pattern. Each ring is individually opened, woven, and then closed, in the same fashion the chainmaille armor of medieval times was made.

The earrings are 1-3/4 inches long, and they hang from handmade sterling silver earwires.
