Granulated Ovals with Peridot

Granulated Ovals with Peridot

Fine silver granulation is an ancient technique where individual small silver granules are individually placed and then the piece is brought up to a temperature just below the melting point where the individual pieces fuse together, forming a permanent bond without the use of solder.

Peridot, the birthstone of August, is a unique gemstone in that it mostly exists in one color, a distinctive lime green. In ancient times it was believed that this stone was a gift of Mother Nature to celebrate the annual creation of a new world. It is said to protect against nightmares and to bring the wearer power, influence, and a wonderful year. As peridot is a gemstone that forms deep inside the Earth and brought to the surface by volcanoes, in Hawaii, peridot symbolizes the tears of Pele, the goddess of fire and volcanoes. Today, most of the peridot supply comes from Arizona; other sources are China, Myanmar, and Pakistan.

The sterling silver earwires are handmade, and the earrings are 1-3/4 inches long.
