Balloon Flower Bracelet

Balloon Flower Bracelet

The balloon flower, Platycodon grandiflorus, is aptly named since before it blooms, the buds swell and look like little balloons. It is native throughout Japan, China, and eastern Siberia, including the Korean Peninsula, but grows well in a garden and is hardy and deer-resistant.

This flower was handmade using an ancient sculpting technique called Chasing and Repousse, which uses small, blunt tools and a hammer to push the metal from the back to create depth (repousse) or to add detail and additional depth from the front (chasing). It takes thousands of hammer strikes to create even a small image.

The back of the flower has a handcut image of the balloon flower.

This sterling silver bracelet fits a 7 inch wrist.
