To create chainmaille, wire is formed into a coil, the coil is cut into rings, and these individual rings are woven together to create a fabric or interlocking pattern. The pattern used for these earrings is a traditional chainmaille pattern called European 4-in-1, and the pattern that was used to create the chainmaille armor of the middle ages.
