Sunflower Pendant in a Frame

Sunflower Pendant in a Frame

$350.00

I’ll never forget my first view of a field of sunflowers, as my mom and I were driving across Alberta, Canada. I didn’t learn until relatively recently that sunflowers are considered one of America’s most common wildflowers. These tall, beautiful flowers, when they are young, will turn their heads to the sun and follow it through the day. When they are older, they will stop moving and only face east.

This sterling silver pendant was created entirely by hand, using an ancient sculpting techniques of chasing and repousse. These technique use small, specialized tools and thousands of hammer blows to push and form the metal, either from the front of the piece to add texture and detail (chasing) or from behind to create depth (repousse). This work is done free hand, beginning with a flat sheet of metal, and no molds, stamps or machines are used in the process, making each piece truly one of a kind.

The top of the frame has small 24K gold accents, and the ends of the chain have 18K gold balls. The chain is a sterling silver wheat chain that is 24 inches long and finished with a lobster clasp.

The pendant is approximately 1-1/4 inches tall, 1 inch across, and 4 mm deep.

The quote on the side of the pendant is hand engraved and reads: Face to the sun - Turn your back on shadow.
